Fried Lenovo ThinkPad X60T
Model: ThinkPad X60T Tablet
Type: 6365-CTO
Serial Number: LV-A3103
Product ID: 6365CTO
Description of Problem:
On 02/15/2010 my Lenovo ThinkPad X60T Tablet first started to first exhibit problems and general instability (e.g., constant freezes, programs crashing, and the fan starting to make a high-pitch buzzing sound). However, the system started working again the following day and worked great for about another week.
Then on Feb. 23rd the laptop had an amazing failure...while sitting on my desk charging it started to power-on out of the blue (i.e., the screen turned on and showed the Lenovo Logo), but while it did so it made a horrible sound from the fan (a very high-pitch whining sound like the fan was going exceptionally fast). Next, the system's screen turned off/black (the fan was still screeching) and I started to smell a faint burning/electric smell. I pulled the power cord from the wall socket but that didn't do anything productive so as I was going to move it off my desk it started to smoke from the fan area and then I heard a small "pop" and I then decided to just exit the room and get a fire extinguisher just in case. Good thing I did because before I returned the unit made a very loud POP sound and I found it totally shorted out and the plastic in the back side of it by the battery was melted and charred.
Obviously, it is my opinion that the computer is a total throw-away piece of junk but my insurance company still wants a "repair" estimate or a statement that it is "non-repairable."
